Eric Loth

Bio
Eric Loth was appointed Principal of the IRC in August of 2013 through May of 2018 and is a Professor in the School of Engineering and Applied Science. He joined the University of Virginia faculty in 2010 as the Associate Chair for Aerospace Engineering in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering after serving as a Professor in the College of Engineering at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. At Illinois, he was honored as Teacher of the Year for Aerospace Engineering and also named a Willett Faculty Scholar. He is quite familiar with the residential college system as twice having spent sabbaticals at Cambridge University. In his most recent visit, he was inducted as the Yip Fellow of Magdalene College, and resided on the College grounds for one term. For his research, he has received awards from NASA, the National Science Foundation, the National Center for Supercomputing, the American Society of Mechanical Engineer's, the Department of the Navy. He has also given invited talks at several institutions including Brown, Cambridge, Harvard, MIT, and Oxford. Loth is a native of France and now a naturalized citizen of the United States. He is married to Marie Loth, a physical therapist who has worked with university students with disabilities.
