Michael is an architect, urban designer and photographer. He teaches architecture studios at the UVA School of Architecture and real estate development courses in the Urban and Environmental Planning program. He has led UVA student study abroad trips to the UK, Greece, Italy, France, India, and aboard the ISE Semester at Sea program. As an architect in practice and in research, Petrus’ sustainability-oriented work with Crisman+Petrus architects has been recognized by awards and fellowships from numerous universities, government agencies and NGOs. He earned his Master of Architecture in Urban Design degree with distinction from Harvard Graduate School of Design in 1997 and a Bachelor of Architecture from Carnegie Mellon University. Petrus’ urban landscape photographic work has also been widely published and exhibited.
