Hello everyone and welcome to the IRC!

I am grateful to serve as the Principal of the International Residential College this year. I live at the IRC in Little Morea House and I collaborate with the our community to build an intellectually rich, caring, and sustainable shared place. I enjoy getting to know students in my classroom, studio, office, and through a host of IRC events. I'd like to hear your ideas about new events or practices at the IRC. Thank you for introducing yourself when we meet so I can get to know you better.

A bit about me: I'm a Professor of Architecture and Director of the pan-university Global Studies program. I teach courses and studios on architecture, urban design, and sustainability, and I also direct the Global Environments + Sustainability major and minor. The  IRC is an important part of my academic life as well. I started as IRC Principal in August 2023 and served as the Director of Studies for the previous four years (2019-2023).  In my academic research and professional practice with Crisman+Petrus Architects, I study and design green buildings and sustainable communities. My current work is focused in two areas: NSF-funded climate adaptation design projects in Norfolk, VA, and Indigenous Ecologies research with tribal communities in South Dakota and South Africa. I completed my Architecture and Urban Design degrees at Harvard and Carnegie Mellon universities, followed by a post-graduate Fulbright Fellowship in the Netherlands. Beyond my academic and professional activities, I love to cycle, sail, and travel. I've lived and worked in Hong Kong, Italy, and the Netherlands, traveled to over sixty countries, and sailed around the world twice on Semester at Sea.
